Oxford’s First Outdoor Mural

Oxford, Mississippi recently gained its first outdoor mural. David and Susan Shaw, owners of Sneed’s Ace Hardware, provided the funding and wall to bring the creation to life. The effort to bring the mural to life was spearheaded by local artist Earl Dismuke. He met painters Wendo Brunious, JoLean Barkley, and Angel Perdomo on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where they were exhibiting a mural and immediately thought of them for this project. The Shaws requested an abstract mural, so the team of artists went to work on a composition that follows the flows and shapes of some of their signature colors, but the interpretation is up to the viewer. The mural has been well received and is already a popular spot for photographs in Oxford. All involved hope this will be the catalyst to bring out more murals in Oxford.
